Colour Haze - Colour Haze
7.0 - Germany - 2004
Self-titled, but not a debut from the established German spacerock trio. Like all Colour Haze records, it prominently features that same sludgy fuzz guitar sound. Opener "Mountain" -- which as far as I can tell is only present on CD pressings -- builds to a thrilling climax and the epic centrepiece "Peace, Brothers and Sisters!" does not wear out its twenty-minute plus runtime. It's the quieter pieces that most let down this otherwise decent record. "Love", which is mostly a solo vocal/guitar piece involves a lot of waiting around for the inevitable build-up when the rest of the band comes in. And, as with most Colour Haze records, it's the vocals and lyrics that bring things down. Stefan Koglek does not have a particularly good voice (there's always something slightly off whenever Germans sing in English!), and the hippy-dippy lyrics are a bit naff. Still, the riffs are killer.
