Bruce Haack - Together

5.0 - Canada - 1971

Yeah, it’s a kids’ record, but Haack synthy oddness is worth hearing.  Opener “Maybe This Song” is actually a fine pop song; its naïve lyrics written for infants are no worse than the hippie music of the day.  In fact, the fact that it’s a kids’ song makes its innocent naïvete genuine rather than the lame affectations of drugged-up bourgeois protest-kids (I’m looking at you, Nash).  Elsewhere, “Colours” meditates melodically on synthaesthesia AND the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, and a robot is ordered around in “OK Robot”.  Otherwise forgettable.
