Cranium Pie - Mechanisms, Part 2
9.0 - England - 2015
Well, I feel kind of bad. After somewhat slating Mechanisms, Pt. 1 due to the frustratingly inexecrable narration that clutters up the otherwise excellent record, I read an interview with the group and they seem to be a thoroughly nice group of blokes who are simply having a lot of fun making their crazy music. Perhaps I was a bit harsh. Still, I stand by my assessment. Fortunately, this second installment of this bonkers concept album involving lobsters recovering from the apocalypse largely dispenses with the annoying narration leaving us with a double lp's worth of wonderful retro psych. Sure, there are a few moments where the silly voices crop up to ruin things, but they are largely few and far between so that we can enjoy the awesome guitar solos and chunky prog grooves more or less unmolested. Excellent stuff. Shine on, you crazy diamonds!
